Need e-commerce for your SMB? SAP has a cloud tool for you

Enabling e-commerce capabilities isn’t a trivial matter for companies small or large, but SAP has a new cloud tool it thinks will help SMBs in particular. Called SAP Anywhere, it’s designed specifically for companies with 10 to 200 employees.

SAP Anywhere aims to help small and midsize businesses build a website or online store, create marketing campaigns, sell products and take payments, manage inventory, and analyze business performance, all from a mobile phone or tablet.

“More than 28 million small firms in the United States need to market goods online and satisfy customers’ desire for a digital buying experience,” said EJ Jackson, senior vice president and general manager for SAP Anywhere. “At the end of the day, company size is irrelevant to the consumer.”

Cloud: Just what the doctor ordered

Two of the most risk averse industries are healthcare and financial services. Yesterday I wrote about how banks are increasingly using public IaaS cloud services. A new study this week finds that health care are warming to the cloud too.

Two years ago HIMSS Analytics and Level 3 found that 22% of health care providers planned to use cloud for back-office functions. This year, the number more than doubled to 46.7%. Just over one in three respondents said they have some sort of patient engagement tools hosted in the cloud. Another popular use case for cloud was Health Information Exchanges.

Colos and MSPs cash in on cloud — while they can

According to professional services firm Jones Lang LaSalle, “More business than ever is happening online, and data centers are feeling the effects. The data center market saw tremendous growth in 2015, with independent providers in the United States alone earning revenues of $ 115.3 billion and experiencing 6.1 percent growth.”

How can the data center market be growing when enterprises are moving to the cloud? Some people say the surge in data centers is concentrated at the cloud computing providers, such as Amazon Web Services, Google, Microsoft, IBM, and Apple, who are all building out more data center space to handle their expansion in services.
